Larkspur is located on the northern slope of Pike
National Forest. Just seven miles south of Castle Rock, this tiny community
offers wonderful views of the Front Range foothills. Larkspurs
neighborhoods and ranch properties intertwine to make up an evolving
community.
Incorporated in 1979, Larkspurs history began with the founding
of the Town of Huntsville in 1860. The area of Perry Park was homesteaded
by Peter Brannan, Albert Dakan, James Gott, Benjamin Quick and George
Ratcliff. A sawmill was opened two years later, following the Bear Canon
Post Office and the founding of the Glen Grove school. As the town grew,
it was moved to Larkspur in 1871. The name Larkspur was chosen by Governor
Hunts wife, Elizabeth. Today, Larkspur is home to the Renaissance
Festival attracting over 180,000 visitors in the summer enjoying
its transformed 16th-century village complete with minstrels and maidens,
artisans creating period crafts. Larkspur is also known for its excellent
golfing. Both Bear Dance Golf Course and Perry Park offer excellent
facilities. The Bear Dance Golf course is also home to the impressive
Colorado Professional Golf Association Historical Center, a collection
of exhibits on the history of golf in the nation's highest state.
With one million acres of Pike National Forest surrounding
the area and the addition of Mueller State Park, Larkspur offers numerous
recreation including horseback riding, fishing, skiing and golfing.
For shopping, the Prime Outlet Mall, just a few minutes to the south
provides a large variety of designer and name brand stores as well as
restaurants for both visitors and residents.
